Alphonse Goossens (1866-1944)
Alphonse Goossens was a botanical artist from Brussels. He worked with Alfred Cogniaux on the Dictionnaire Iconographique des Orchidees. He also painted most of the illustrations in the catalogue of the Association of Haarlem Bulb-culturists, Florilegium Harlemense. Both the Amaryllis and Iris wall hangings come from this catalogue. Unfortunately, I have not yet tracked down a portrait of Alphonse, and he rarely signed his work, but the image above is a rare example.
