More about the image
The beautiful image on the seahorse illustration spectacles pouch is by the Swiss-French zoological artist Jean-Gabriel Prêtre and is taken from the book, Dictionnaire des sciences naturelles, which was published in parts between 1816 and 1845.
In the book, the seahorse is labelled in French (rather than Latin) as Hippocampe filamenteux, and we believe it was painted in 1817.
